Lumberjaxx thrash Czars in heated Calder Conference matchup, 27-10

•December 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The Halifax Lumberjaxx picked up their second win in a row in a big fashion, downing the best-overall club, Saskatoon Czars, 27-10.  The win-loss combination by both clubs pulls Halifax within 4 points of the Calder Conference lead, approaching the half way point of the 2009-10 MLH season.  Only two dressed players in the Lumberjaxx lineup failed to get a point, all of which were lead by defenseman, P.K. Subban’s 6 points.  Jason Jaffray pitched in 5 points and Viatcheslav Voynov collected 4 points, just to round out the top three offensive producers for the Jaxx.  Alexander Sulzer led the Czars offense with 4 points.

Despite subpar season thus far, Louisville recaptures Shore Conference lead; defeat Flagstaff 19-10

•December 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Ugly win, pretty win, a win,  is a win,  is a win.  That might be the slogan for the Louisville Kings this season.  After seasons of domination and amassing three consecutive League titles, the Kings have been on a roller coaster ride to say the least.  And they still manage to sit atop the Shore Conference almost half way through the season.  They took a one point lead over, now second place Tri-Cities, for the Shore lead.  To do it, however, they had to beat the Flagstaff 66ers, who have had a lukewarm season themselves.  David Desharnais scored 5 points, Chris Lee scored 4 points and four other Kings scored a pair of points apiece to power the Louisville offense.  Daryl Boyle’s 8 points led the 66ers and Jason Krog and Alexandre Picard had a point each to round out the Flagstaff scoring.

Virginia Beach continues to shock competition, defeating Kings 12-11

The Virginia Beach Bullsharks ripped off their third win in a row, this time defeating the three-time defending Neilson Cup champion, Louisville Kings, by a slim 12-11 margin.  Graham Mink delivered a 5 point game and Alexander Salak, who some arguably say is the single-most reason for the sudden Virginia Beach turnaround, churned out another stellar performance in the Bullsharks goal.  That isn’t taking anything away from the Kings, however, as their goalie, Justin Peters put in his best work of the season and it was an all around team effort offensively, with Jarome Samson, Danny Groulx and Ivan Vishnevskiy all netting a pair of points each in the loss.

The Tri-Cities  Mountaineers continue to struggle offensively, dropping their second straight game in a 9-4 loss to the Flagstaff 66ers.  Jonathan Matsumoto and Oscar Moller had 2 points each, accumulating he entirety of scoring for the Mountaineers.  It didn’t help the Mountaineers’ plight that 66ers’ goalie, Drew MacIntyre, played brilliantly in net.  Nathan Perkovich had 3 points to lead the Flagstaff scoring in the win.
